Desi Village Indian Cuisine Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Decent indian food. Lots of choices on the menu and ive never seen goat on an indian menu. They pump lots of air in the restaurant so it doesnt smell like curry. The food is overpriced though and i would like to see the restaurant a little bit cleaner. Lots of advertisements and brochures in the restaurant, it feels like a flea market.

I gotta say, this place has certainly had its ups and downs over the years. I've been a customer here on-and-off for 7 years, and while it hasn't been the most consistent place, right now it's very good. The new owner is trying REALLY hard to make it work, and is (mostly) succeeding. The food is spicy and tasty, and the service is prompt and friendly. We ordered the usual: Chicken Tikka Masala, Baingan Bhartha, Saag Paneer, an order of plain Naan, and Tandoori Chicken. Everything was delicious and tasted fresh and spicy. After a long hiatus away, we were pleasantly surprised! My only gripe with Desi is that they no longer take Restaurant.com gift cards, or coupons from the Entertainment book. This is a bit annoying because it is misleading. Why advertise in a coupon book if you won't even take them?! Overall however, this is definitely a place to try!! Come here if you want great Indian food and awesome service :)

Despite the fact, I'm giving a three-star review, I should say the food was delicious. I'm removing two stars because I was disappointed by a few other things. I ordered the Village Biryani. The description on grubHub said it'd be a basmati rice biryani cooked with lamb, chicken and shrimp, topped with fried onions and herbs. The order that was dropped off to me had lamb and chicken meat and an egg. Where did the shrimp go? Also - for $18.95, the portion was a little too small; but that's just my opinion. I ordered a mango lassi. I make lassi pretty frequently at home. It's supposed to have a rich, creamy taste from the yogurt that's used. But Desi Village served it with ice cubes. It's a cold drink and I don't think it was necessary to serve it with ice; it was basically watered down by the time my delivery had arrived at my door. The gajor halua was delicious. No complaints for this one.

So. Big disappointment. DosA's were clearly made yesterday. They were in a large pile on a makeshift grill, looking pretty limp and sad. Kebabs were mixed with the tandoori chicken, and were also just being reheated. Tandoori chicken was very dry. Chicken biryani isn't really a biryani. Just rice mixed with some type of curry. Makes some sense I guess if this was a 6 dollar student buffet, but nope 30 dollars for 2 ppl. Never going back.

Extremely dishonest and poor service. One of the worst dining experiences I've had. Double check your receipt! I ate dinner at this restaurant with 1 other person. When I received the check, I used a groupon and credit card to pay. When I got the receipt page to sign I noticed they charged an automatic 20% "service charge"!?!?. They didn't even point it out to me when they gave me the receipt. I understand this charge if you have a larger party but there were only two people eating. There was no mention of this automatic charge in the groupon terms and conditions. When I asked them what the charge was for, the man at the counter told me it was their own rules that they applied for people from out of town? What does that even mean? I live 5 minutes down the road! When I explained this was wrong for them to automatically add this service charge the man again said it was their own rules. I would have probably left a 20% tip anyway but now I have to make a dispute through my credit card and dispute with groupon as I feel I was scammed by this restaurant. The food is not good, and the service poor. Very shady and dishonest business, would not recommend to anyone, and check your receipt!

I ordered take out here right before they were about to close and they were still happy to serve me. I had a $17 chicken tikka masala which was very well portioned but still overpriced in my opinion. The sauce was delicious and very tomatoey but chicken was extremely dry.

I guess this is a relatively new spot judging by the lack of reviews. Nothing really stood out about my dinner experience except that they had lamb samosas which were a real treat compared to the normal potato ones. Their chutneys were weak and they were missing the red onion so it was only the tamarind sauce and the green one. The entrees were good and came out "indian spicy" as request. I had the lam Karahi while my friend had paneer. He mentioned how it seemed to be higher quality but I saw it as on par with all the other local Indian spots.

As you walk into this restaurant, you're greeted by the warmest smile and hospitality which will surely brighten your day! My best friends and I arrived somewhat late on a Saturday afternoon around 4.40 pm and even though the restaurant didn't open for dinner till 5pm, the servers still accommodated us. We were ecstatic as we were starving. I would have to say that the food is good. The palak paneer lacked "oomph" aka flavor but the chicken tikka masala was delicious. Our aloo papri chaat ( Indian street food favorite) was a little different but it was still delicious. I would be a little hesitant to recommend the aloo paratha on how it's made but the peshwari naan was decent :) I think what made me give this restaurant 4 stars is the service. The level of hospitality offered made me feel like I was at home. The manager, shahid, was very kind to stop by and check on us. He asked us how the meal was and I gave him my honest opinion about the palak paneer and he offered to replace it. We certainly did not need to go that way but just the mere suggestion was excellent customer service. Shahid the manager offered us complementary desserts some gulabjamun and rice pudding because the palak paneer was sub par. I have to say that even though this was completely unnecessary, the dessert touch and the service made a lasting impression on our meal. So yes, if you're in the KOP area for some shopping and want an ethnic touch to end your evening or even for lunch, come to desi village. I know for a fact that they've catered our office lunches in Conshohocken as well. Brava!

My family and I have eaten at Desi Village at least once each month for at least 10 years. They treat us like family, we always walk in to a welcoming smile. That is not to say there have not been dinners that took too long because they were very busy, that happens. Any restaurant you go to will have the occasion times when they are behind, but overall, the service and the family environment is amazing. In terms of the food, we are always very happy with it. We find the food full of flavor, spicy without being just "heat" and the portions are generous. My children like that the staff knows just how my they like their chicken tikka massala. When we've visited multiple times in a month and are bored with the menu, they make us something different. You might find fancier restaurants, but you will not find a restaurant which combines great food and a warm family atmosphere. I highly recommend going to Desi Village.

Horrible experience, cold tasteless food and subpar etiquette. I was hoping for some good panjabi food but utterly disappointed

Nice plates. I'm having the goat curry and spiced cucumber salad. Curry is rich and prepared just the right level of spice. The salad is fresh and crisp. Excellent.

I called for a takeout order at around 9:50 on a Friday night (they're open until 11PM): Me: Hello, I'd like to place an order to pick up, please. Employee: Sir, can you please call back in five minutes, we're very busy. *CLICK* ...truly? You can't listen to me say the words "chicken tikka masala" and my name for less than a minute on the phone? And then you don't have to deal with me for about 20 minutes until I come and pick it up. How busy can they be at ten minutes to ten at night? I've been here before for the lunch buffet and the food was very good. But without a solid base of customer service it's all for nothing. I'm never going to attempt to order or go here again.

Ambience - 3/5, scope of lots of improvement. Correspondence - 3/5, people need to listen, understand and respond to the customers. Cleanliness- 3/5 Food - 3.5/5, I think this is the only one area where I can give a little higher score. Not much choice but what ever there is chef seems to know them well. Overall - 3/5 One incident, may be lack of knowledge, customer asked for butter paneer masala which is not in menu but was given paneer tikka masala and was told that they both are same. In reality they both are completely different.

My girl and I went to try the lunch buffet. The food was decent and great flavor. The service was definitely good. The place does not look good at all and that's why to low rating. Although the food was good the worn booth and floor make us feel the place was a little neglected over the years. They definitely need to renovate the place.

Good is great, very close to authentic indian. Service can be good or bad depending on your server. Opens till late which is another plus!

King of Prussia, PA I didnt know how to rate. I called them and their buffet is closed for an event. Im on the lookout for new spots not explored yet. U never know some of these places no one really knows of...might have the most amazing food...and yet to be discovered. Im up for the adventure always. Will be back.

Don't like the decoration. It looks like a fast food place instead of a sit down restaurant. I ordered lamb curry and it was tasty.

Rating is based on below facts 1. Salted lassi had chat masala in it with no Cumin powder 2. Tandoori paneer was bland. Paneer was not marinated with poorly sautéed onions. Bell peppers was missing.. Menu says its served with bell peppers. 3.overall not a very good dining experience Although the service was good and the waiters were flexible to change the order.

I'm surprised by the low ratings for this restaurant. I've eaten at Desi Village several times now (for both lunch and dinner) and have had quality food and pleasant service each time. My most recent visit was for dinner with my boyfriend on a Thurs night. The place was empty (surprise, surprise)... but that just made for a quiet, relaxing dinner. I had the tandoori salmon which was deliciously cooked and served with a veggie/onion mixture and basmati rice. I really enjoy the tandoor style dishes since they bring out the flavor of the meat and don't leave you feeling bloated and greasy from eating fatty sauce. My boyfriend had a lamb dish (the Vindaloo maybe?) which was also tasty and more on the fatty/saucy end of the Indian food spectrum. In a good way. I also ordered the chicken soup which was good but unremarkable (similar to chicken and rice soup). We got a bonus lentil soup too since they must have made it mistakenly - good, but not my cup of tea (or cup of soup, if you will). The service was a little "funny" -- our waiter asked 3 times in a row if we wanted to order any naan, just phrasing the question slightly differently. -- Would you like any naan? No, thank you. -- No naan? No thanks. -- It's the flat bread. Do you want any? No, I think we're all set with no naan, but thanks for asking. But the service was very pleasant (both waiter and busboy) and the food came out in reasonable time. Desi Village tastes and feels authentic (from my limited experience), and a big step above gas station Indian take-out. And it's a huge step up from the many chain restaurants that proliferate KoP. Note: It's BYOB and there's a great liquor store right next door!

Worst restaurant in the area. This is an expensive, Bangladeshi restaurant with no quality of food. Even Veg Biryani costs $15 that too with all frozen veggis. I hope another good Indian restaurant or franchise takes over this restaurant which is at a prime location. Unfortunately they make the worst, tasteless, unhealthy food on this planet. If you happen to be from south Asia you would curse them badly before you come out for sure. Even after reading this review you wanna try out then you are the craziest guy.

Desi is a good restaurant the food is a little pricey but authentic cuisine. The lunchtime buffet I would recommend for a person trying the cuisine so they try many things.

We had take out last night. We had samosa, garlic naan, Baingan Bhartha, and Del Makhani. It was really really good! It took a while to get our order but the staff informed us ahead of time so it was not a surprise about 35min). The staff was very friendly and gave us a type of appetizer we "Free" due to the wait. How cool is that? We got our food and took it to our room and it was soooo good! I recommend this to everyone out there wanting to try Indian food. Great place, great service.

Don't order the chicken tikka masala. It tasted like chicken in marinara sauce. Nothing authentic about that. Horrible food. After eating there, we got food poisioning. Food did not come out on time, after ordering they forgot parts of the order. For the price of the food, I had better portions and better food elsewhere. Will DEFINATELY NOT be coming back to this place.

This place is SO hit or miss that I've been coming here for years and still haven't written a review yet because of the inconsistencies in food and service. The food is a little more consistent than the service though. I've been here once for a lunch buffet and several times for dinner. The food has always been at least pretty good, and at times has been excellent. I recommend the goat and lamb entrees. Lamb vindaloo is very good, and nicely spicy. One of the things I like best is that the kitchen gets the spice level correct almost every time. When I ask for something spicy, it comes out spicy. When I ask for something medium spicy, it's perfectly medium spicy. So often indian restaurants make things too mild for gringos, or too spicy for this gringo! The service is what makes me hesitate to make this a regular spot. I've hardly ever had good service. It's often either too quick, or way too slow. They often sell groupons, and when went on a night close to the groupon's expiration date, the kitchen was unprepared for the busy-ness and our food took over an hour to come out. And then all of a sudden, on our last visit, my guy and I got excellent service. And there was even a very large party (seriously, like at least 40 or 50 people) going on in another room at the same time! So it's just a mixed bag. Lastly, the restaurant is difficult to spot from the road. It's right off the huge intersection of 202 and Gulph Rd near the KOP mall. Take a right when you see the Peace of Pizza on the right, because Desi Village is located on the side of the building. There are only five designated spots for the restaurant. When they're full, you have to either park at the pizza place, or behind the building by a liquor store. Which reminds me of a big positive - the restaurant is a BYO, and there's a liquor store conveniently next door! Love that.

Stopped in last Thursday night with the fiancée. Had a groupon. Upon walking in, the first thing you notice is the size of the place, it's BIG. The decor is definitely dated and in need of repair (our seats had lime green duct tape on it), but it did appear to be clean. We were immediately welcomed with water and our orders taken promptly. We started with gobi manchurian, which is a spicy cauliflower appetizer. It is lightly fried and comes with a spicy sauce. I would highly recommend it. My fiancée ordered a bowl of mulligatawny soup. This Classic Indian soup was made with lentils here, which seemed highly unusual to me, though I'm no expert. It was however fresh and hit the spot on a frigid night. For our entrees, we ordered the chana masala and chicken tikka masala, with some garlic naan. SO GOOD! The entrees were so delicious, you could tell the food was made fresh. When you order tikka masala at a lot of restaurants, sadly, what comes out is overlooked chicken, covered in a thin pink sauce, lacking in flavor. Here, the chicken was tender, the sauce flavorful, with lots of veggies visible. Overall good meal. I will return, though I'll wait until I get another groupon.

This is a bit of a step up for the restaurant. But still not much. I had a seamless gift card, which I had to use before a certain date. So, the only restaurant near to me which delivers is, Desi village. I ordered the Malai Kofta, Bhel Puri, Garlic naan and Aaloo paratha. Malai Kofta was decent but the sauce was a day old. And there was no aaloo (Potato) in aaloo paratha. For Bhel Puri they had all the ingredients seperate, which is good. But again, this will be the last place I will be looking for to have dinner or lunch.

It's better to go here for lunch than dinner, because you can get the buffet and not have to worry about the service. We got seated immediately, but it took quite a while to just get water and even longer for them to take our order. They have all the traditional meals you'd expect from an Indian place. It's all pretty good, but everything is over $16 and the spicy meal I ordered had little kick. It took quite a while for our meal to come out. So long that when the entrees came, we just boxed it up and went on to do our other stuff. They said they sent people out to cater an event, but that doesn't excuse being under staffed on a Saturday evening. I went back the next day to get something to go (I had a Groupon already) and it was a little faster with me being the only one there.

One of the worst Indian food I had here. Biryani served was cold and first time I experience chicken Biryani can be served cold. It may be morning cooked looks like and not fresh. The pakora was out of order and smelling badly. Asked owner to taste one bite out of that and he realized that is was ripened food. Suggestion here try some other Indian restaurant just to eat fresh food and save ur money. Service is also horrible..

This place isn't that bad for dinner. Went on a Thursday evening, and we were the only customer there. They give you free chips with mint and tamarind chutney, the mint wasnt that good but the tamarind was. Everything was great EXCEPT for one thing. About 20mins into our meal, a family came in to eat. I don't know if the restaurant have only 1 mint and tamarind chutney or not, but a server came over and reach to grab the chutneys I was still using, THEN he asked if i was still using it. I don't know why the server would take the chutneys i was using unless it was to be giving to the other table. Beside this incident, it was great, but due to the fact that i have to experience such thing, i give it a 3 star instead of 4.

UPDATE: I understand the management has changed since my negative food event and 3 day intestinal roller coaster ride. In all fairness to them, and in the spirit of generosity, I will up my rating to middle of the road. You challenged me to try again Desi, so I will. OLD review: Food poisoning. I'm pretty sure it was the mint chutney, which in years past would sit out on the buffet line. It wasn't there...so I asked for some, and out comes a cold, half empty, open container. That little voice in my head tried to warn me. Two days later...If I had only listened. Besides that it was a letdown! Cold tandoori chicken and dried out tikka masala. Done w Desi V.

I have only had foo from Desi Village a few times while here on different trips. The service is always good. When I have it delivered they are good at getting it here as soon as they can. The food I have never had a problem with. It has always been good.

I've been here many times, usually for the lunch buffet and twice for dinner. The dinners were very good, freshly prepared and tasty. However, the buffet, originally was very good, lots of variety, especially for Veggies. In the more recent visits, the buffet has gone down hill. It does not have as many varieties for Veggies, the Nann was cold & stale, the soup container was empty. In previous visits, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. On this recent visit, no smiles, welcoming, etc. - we were just seated, given our beverages and said to go to the buffet. I wouldn't rule them out and would certainly try them again, if in the area. But I would try to search out another Indian Restaurant for comparison in King of Prussia.

Please avoid this place. As Indians, we went in expecting some good, tasty desi dishes, however, we were really disappointed. We went there for dinner and ordered a pretty standard lamb dish. It tasted like meat swimming in a bucket of tomato ketchup. When we asked the waiter if this was indeed the dish we ordered he said yes, and later, after we paid the bill admitted that the chef had changed the recipe last minute. Not cool! The naan tasted like naan from a packet and they charged us 3.95 a piece for frozen cardboard! Btw, they charged us for the lamb dish (that the chef had changed without telling us!) The place was empty when we walked in, and that should have been our first warning, but oh well. Awful food, very high prices, and a wait staff that clearly does not have customer service as its priority.

I'm sorry, owners of Desi. I really wanted to like you. But it has to be said. If what you put out on the buffet this week is indicative of your normal quality, I can't come back. Now, I don't know if it is inconsistency. Perhaps it is. Perhaps you do succeed on other days. It just didn't work for me on the day I came. Many of the flavors of the food in general seemed off. The Chana Masala just had no flavor to speak of. The Chicken Pulao had no chicken it, and didn't even taste like it ever did. Tandoori chicken, vegetable pakora, they were OK but again, just didn't have the flavor that other places have. Maybe if there was one dish that was pretty good, it was the Chicken Makhani. But that's such a basic dish that it's pretty hard to screw up. The Chicken Chapati wasn't bad, but it was quite greasy. On top of this... not much of a dessert choice to even speak of. Most places will put out some gulab jamun with a couple of other choices. Here just a couple of puddings and some melon. The mango lassi was a separate cost, and it tasted weird with grenadine in it. Just about everything I associate with a good Indian buffet wasn't here. And I'm sorry as well to say this. I did discuss with the very nice managers behind the counter whether or not they would ever consider putting mango lassi on the buffet. They told me they wouldn't because it costs too much, and they were afraid people would drink too much of it. Well, the competitors are doing this right up the street with more dessert choices to boot. I'd rather pay your competitors $8.95 for a better tasting buffet with a glass of mango lassi as part of the deal and a taste of gulab jamun. Here, I got subpar food, nothing appetizing for dessert, and a mango lassi for close to $13. You have to step it up, guys. Read the mixed reviews here. Something's off about this place.

We decided to come here since it was one of the closest Indian restaurants to the KOP mall, and I wish we traveled a few more minutes to go elsewhere. The two stars is only because the food was half decent. We had the chana saag and paneer makhani with plain naan. We asked for medium spiciness, but it was actually not that spicy at all. Overall the food was sub-par. The service we had was quite horrible, most likely because they had two parties going on, but still, it was a nightmare. We walked in and waited about 5 minutes at the counter until we even saw someone who worked at the restaurant. They seated us with menus and no one came back over for about 10 minutes. We ordered our food and they gave us some water. Another person comes over and repeats our order, to make sure the other person got it right, I guess. The food comes out 20 minutes later and somehow it was the wrong food! They gave us lamb saag instead of chana saag. They took it back and left the paneer makhani and rice. At this point we were not given silverware or serving utensils yet so we couldn't even begin eating. They came out with the chana saag 5 minutes later... and we had to ask for silverware. At this point the paneer was room temperature. Another waiter came over and asked us is everything was okay and filled our waters. We asked for the check and it came 10 minutes later. Overall, really bad service and no apologizes were really given. Will we be coming back? No.

The Chicken Tikka Masala is always a good when I order out, the only down fall is you have to order $25 worth of food in order to get takeout. Make sure you have a group if you don't want to pay that much. I went to the lunch buffet too and the restaurant was set up for a party. They took my friend and I in anyway.

I called in my order and the girl on the phone had NO IDEA about anything on the menu. She told me that my order would be delivered in a half hour. After calling three times, my order was delivered an hour and a half later. The food was cold, and honestly not that good. I will absolutely not be spending any more money at this restaurant.

This is underrated. We had a FANTASTIC time here. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive. So what, how is the food, you ask? Well, the food is equally FANTASTIC. We went in without prior thoughts, and asked for recommendations, we just wanted to try something than the usual Chicken Tikka we get elsewhere. Our food came QUICK.. hot and spicy as ordered (they'll make it mild too if you need it). We loved it, and wish we lived closer. SKIP the cookie-cutter chain restaurants.. they don't need your hard-earned dollar. Do something different, go HERE.. you won't regret it!!!

Let me be clear-- my girlfriend and I came here using a $15 for $30 deal. It was pretty disappointing. Desi Villages loses three stars for the slowness of service, general dinginess of the area where we were sat, and the small portion of food for the high price. The restaurant earns two stars for good flavor of the lamb curry and an eggplant dish. Upon arriving, we were seated immediately at a booth. Some items were missing from the table-- only one water glass and one set of silverware. We were given menus, and our server left for about 10 minutes before coming back to take our order-- garlic naan, lamb curry, and an eggplant dish. It was nice to have papad on the table when we sat down. If I knew better, I wouldn't have snacked through it so quickly. About 15 minutes later our entrees came. During that time, we kept trying to get the attention of any server. The items we ordered came to just about $30, so we wanted a mango lassi. When our entrees arrived, we ordered a lassi. Sadly, they didn't have any even though it was on the menu. Moreover, we ordered garlic naan, and it wasn't ready yet. Another 10 minutes passed and we received our naan. It was also about this time that they started to clear a table adjacent to our booth where a party of 8 made a huge mess before we arrived. When eating, it is not appetizing to have a disgusting, dirty table in your sight line. Thankfully it only took them 30 minutes to start clearing it. I wouldn't go back. There are too many other better places on the mainline for Indian/Pakistani food, and plenty more in Philadelphia.

They reuse the chutney that's in the chutney holder. They took the holder to the side and wiped the edges with a napkin to make it look not used. How disgusting. The waiter was putting his hand into the behl puri bag and eating out of it behind the bar. And he made the behl puri dish that we ordered where we could see from our seats. POOR waiter etiquettes. He was even eating food in sight, like go to the break room or something. Don't recommend this place at all! This experience ruined our appetite. Doesn't even deserve one star.

I feel bad writing this review. The people serving the food were so very very nice. The food is so heavy in grease and oil, everyone felt so sick and had stomach pain after. Even felt the food coming back up. I can't come back.

Desi Village has been in business for years, but after sampling it I think that speaks more to the lack of Indian options in KOP proper. When I walk into an Indian (or any type of predominantly ethnic) restaurant and see mostly gringos, it makes me raise my eyebrows. I will say that nothing was particularly offensive about the food and I've had far worse North Indian fare in restaurants, hence the three star rating. However, my meal wasn't something that would keep me coming back. The spicing and seasoning of the various curries is surprisingly vibrant, but these sauces feel quite heavy. The meats here aren't the best, as my lamb was overcooked and a bit tough. The vegetables in the Jalfrezi were the frozen, supermarket variety, which was not enjoyable at all. Naans are average, rice is prepared well. Everything is overpriced. The food earns 2 stars, but the service was friendly enough to warrant another. Desi Village's food is simply average, and fairly costly for the quality. I won't be returning any time soon unless I'm magically stranded in KOP with few other options.

This place is beyond strange. This was me and my boyfriends second time coming and the first time was a pretty nice experience. The first time we paid full price so when I saw a groupon my bf and I were excited to get a good meal for a great deal. The food isn't terrible but we did feel ripped off when the "Ghobi Pakora" came to the table the appetizer consisted of 2 pieces of cauliflower, 2 pieces of egg plant and piece of potato. They were tasty but there wasn't enough! We also ordered mango lassies and I cannot find it on their online menu but I think they were $4 a piece and the wine glass it came in had about 70% ice and 30% lassi. That was a bit ridiculous! The entrees weren't bad a tad expensive but for location and quantity we understand! The most upsetting part about our experience is when went to pay I presented my groupon and I felt that the cashier tried to pad the bill and if I didn't quickly noticed his error he would of gone on and tried his best to rip me off. I don't know if the Philadelphia location has anything to do with this place but I do not recommend coming here. I honestly don't think the business is doing too well and if I have a bad feeling about management. I have a feeling they will be shutting down !

If I had known they delivered, I would have started ordering ages ago. this is some of the best quality Indian food I've experienced. I am unable to eat here often due to getting there but their delivery service is top of the line. Their menu has much better variety than others in the area. Mulligatawny soup, curry, and many other dishes. They will deliver anywhere within 4 miles. Fast service and courteous waitstaff

I went for lunch. The buffet was good and I was very full for $15. The place was mostly empty. Much of the buffet didn't interest me but they had good daal and saag along with some good meat dishes. The spice was good, not crazy hot but tasty. There was a salad bar, soup, naan, and other choices. The staff was friendly but quiet. I would have liked a few more main dishes to choose from and the chicken tikka dyed green didn't do it for me. I ate 4 full plates of food. I also spilled sauce all over my shirt. Guess I was really hungry. There is also a full menu from which you can order. I would go again.

It was ok. Went here with co workers for their lunch buffet and i have to say i'm not a fan of their food but my co-workers were happy with the selection price and quality of the food. The lunch buffet was good and the staff was quite attentive at what we are getting and ordering. I personally would not go again simply because I didn't like the food but my friends thoroughly enjoyed it and were talking positively about it.

The food here is not atrocious, it's no better for worse than a typical Indian restaurant. The 1-star rating is definitely for the management attitude. I will never return to that place again. First the pros: - The mango lasse is tasty. - The wait staff is usually very polite and attentive. Cons: - There were only 3 small pieces of naan, and they were rock hard. The naan is my favorite part of the meal, but they wouldn't bring out fresh naan until the pieces of cardboard with gone, so we took it and put it aside. Then, 30 min late, they brought out the naan, and although we initially tried to wait, we were pretty much done with our meal by then. - The management is downright rude and awful. I had called to ask for the buffet price about a week before we went to eat there. We went in for the buffet and before we started eating, we informed the waiter that we were planning on using a Groupon. When we got the bill, we were charged a higher price than what I was told over the phone. I asked them about it, and they rudely told me that I must've heard wrong. Then, we tried to use a Groupon, and was told that it didn't apply to buffets. However, our waiter never told us that the Groupon couldn't be used (but in fairness, he might not have known), and the FAQ portion of the Groupon specially said that it could be used for buffets, which I pointed out and showed them on my phone, but they said that it was a mistake on part of Groupon. They further explained that they don't make much money off of the buffet (which I don't believe when you charge $17/pp and serve luke-warm food and rock hard naan), and so they can't allow the use of the Groupon, but they offered to allow us to use at a subsequent, dinner dine-in visit. Oh How Nice! NOT!!! I think it was a bait and switch, so we payed, contacted Groupon and received a refund, and I will never, ever, go back to that place again.

My ex and I went here because we had a entertainment book coupon. We went for lunch and had the buffet. It may be the worst Indian I have had in the Philly area. Items that should be spicy were not. They had a pretty big buffet with lots of options. We tried almost everything and it just simply wasn't very good. Everything lacked a lot of flavor. Make the trip into Philly and go to Palace at the Ben for their lunch buffet and you won't be disappointed.

Had lunch here a week ago and had the buffet. On the positive side, the food was flavorful and seemed to be replenished at a good rate. There was a decent crowd and the staff was courteous and friendly. On the negative side, a few of the pans of food were lukewarm at best, and a couple of the dishes weren't the best Indian food I've ever had. But then again, I used to live in NYC and have eaten some pretty impressive fare so I'm using a high bar. Bottom line: I think the buffet is OK and a decent value at $9. I didn't need to eat dinner the night after I had lunch here :-) But don't expect to have a gourmet Indian experience. The decor is a bit tired and the food is not completely authentic, but if you want to fill up on some decent food, then I think it's worth a visit.

Based on the rave reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Desi Village a shot after an afternoon of shopping at the King of Prussia Mall across the street. This was one of the rare occasions that I felt I was led astray by Yelp. Unfortunately, the buffet that everyone raves about is not available on Sundays. So, I walked into a very over-priced a la carte menu and walked out very dissatisfied. I give them a 2 1/2 star review for the horrendous over-pricing. The staff is friendly and courteous. The restaurant's decor, however is nothing to write home about. the food is acceptable, but not great by a long shot, especially given the prices and quantity served. I ordered puri, which was tasty, but for $4 was a dollar too much. I also ordered the homemade paneer dumplings medium spicy, which at 16 dollars, I expected to impress me. What I got instead was a bowl full of lightly spiced heavy cream, not at all spicy, with THREE SMALL (walnut sized) dumplings and a bowl of jasmine rice. I was like, you've got to be kidding me. Wow. What a serious rip off. I walked out pretty pissed. It was a 7 dollar meal that I paid twice that for. NOT HAPPY.

Although my boyfriend recommends five stars, I've only dined here once so I'm only giving four stars. We went here for dinner on a weekday evening. The atmosphere is casual but nice as the air smells inviting, warm and fragrant. The food was very good and service was amicable and attentive (our water glasses were always filled and I only sipped my water twice!) and suggestions were made for dinner. Portions were huge but everything was delicious. The only thing is that I was really looking forward to trying the traditional pakistani dessert but unfortunately I could not get it and forgot what they said as to why I couldn't do that. However, I went with the rice pudding for dessert which you must try! It was pretty much the best rice pudding I ever had.

Pretty good Indian food. I had the Tandoori Chicken. There wasn't really anything wrong with it, but it just wasn't really to my taste. The garlic Naan was good, but had a LOT of garlic on it. Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. Only real gripe is the price which seemed a tad high. Coming in for their lunch buffet is probably a good deal.

After the hike lunch again. Saw the mixed reviews and took a chance. This time my luck ran out. The buffet foods were lukewarm on steam tables. The best were the desserts and the cilantro condiment [very spicy and tasty]. Everything else indicated that the chef cannot find the spice cabinet, as it was all BLAND. Won't go again. Peace a Pizza is right next door and they have a gluten free pizza!

I'm not a connoisseur of Indian cuisine so I'm basing my review on taste and service only. On a Saturday evening just before the holidays, the place was busy but with plenty of seating. It's a BYOB restaurant so don't expect wine or liquor service, and since this is Pennsylvania, don't expect the wine store next door to have beer, as we begrudgingly learned....but I digress. Service was friendly but a bit slow. What stands out in our experience is that the prices were a bit steep, but the quantity of some dishes are very, very minuscule. One of my three dining partners ordered a dish of vegetable balls in a type of curry sauce as an entree, approximately $15 was the menu price. What he received were three very tiny little balls, not enough to share and considering the price, well worth the sticker shock it caused. He asked the waiter if the amount was correct and was told it was. Food was consistent with basic Americanized Indian fare, at least as far as my experience; the emphasis here is on sauce and my dish of "Shrimp Vindaloo" promised a "hot, spicy, tangy shrimp.." but seemed a bit over cooked and deluged with a sauce that was anything but tangy. It was also $21.95 and I counted no more than five medium shrimp. I would recommend it for a lunch or a casual dinner stop, but be sure to realize you'll pay a bit over the going rate. Desi Village is NOT a great value for your buck.

I believe this is a Pakistani buffet ($9 lunch). Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm unsure if they have a liquor license but there's a small area for dancing and there's a regular menu available that is considerably more expensive than the buffet. In any event, the food here is fresh and delicious (I love the mutter curry)! Sometimes we get a discount since I've been there so many times it's not funny... Service is good about keeping water glasses filled and the selection and freshness of the dishes are far superior when compared to other Indian buffets in the area. Of course, one could say that you can't compare Pakistani and Indian restaurants, but to the layman, they are almost indistinguishable. (Again, someone correct me if there are easy ways to compare/contrast Indian and Pakistani buffets.) Make sure to order some naan with your meal!

Had one good experience here for dinner. On our 2nd visit my girlfriend found a small stone in the appetizer - almost like a piece of gravel. What's really bad is that they didn't offer to take anything off the bill. I had to ask for the app to be taken off, then they did. Lamb was tender the first time, then tough the 2nd time. There won't be a 3rd time.

Worst place. I had a fish curry with rice and fish feels like a rubber piece to me. I asked them to make it more spicy and they added more pepper powder and I can smell it in the curry. In definitely not going there again !!!

the restaurant has good interior but it wasn't very clean and the food was cold and tasteless. It felt like there was a mix of stale and freshly cooked food. There were used tissue papers and plastic glass/spoons under my chair and the carpet looked very dirty. while the buffet was on, the guy was moping floor with a strong smelling chemical, which kind of spoiled the environment too.

I need to start this by confessing that I'm not a fan of buffets at all; the food is often ancient, lukewarm, and often sporting that creepy "skin" on the sauce or gravy. When my client suggested we go to the buffet for lunch, I politely smiled, but secretly figured I'd be disappointed. Ninjas, I proudly stand corrected. Desi Village rocks the buffet! Very tasty selections, all served piping hot. They have stuff for the vegetarians, the meat eaters, and the dessert-a-tarians, too. Your water/beverage is constantly topped off, the service is friendly, and it's also a cheap date. How can you go wrong? You can't. Give them your business! There is no reason not to. I wish I lived closer so I could head up there for dinner; I can only imagine how amazing it must be.

  • Jessica W.

Just had lunch there...the time was around 12:00 and they were out of tandoori chicken and naan. The selection was rather limited. The goat meat was not handled "neatly." The crushed bones were all over the sauce made it very hard to eat. The place is clean and the servers are friendly....but for 11 - 14 bucks, I know where to find a better Indian buffet.

I went for dinner with 10 people and the food was OK.. but would advice EVERYONE to keep an eye for food prices.. when I received the bill and verified the price against the menu - they overcharged me $3 for every single (6) dish - totaling of almost $20 bucks. When I spoke to the Manager (Owner) - his answer, and I quote "We didn't change the prices on the menu so I am not going to refund you the money back' -- if the owner has to be that rude and not honest about the business - then I am sorry but you are going to loose customers.

Ok I guess I should begin by telling you that I so enjoy the heats and spices of good Indian cooking. This information is given so you can balance my review to your own personal taste. I also realize that most of these restaurants have reduced their spicing over time for the very bland palate of Americans, they do need to make a living in our culture. This being said, I have had amazing Indian food at a friends house (home prepared) as well as in London and i'm telling you good Indian food ROCKS! Samosas, aloos, curries and masalas do not have to be "hot" to have very rich and spicy flavors. Which is why, I am so disappointed with Desi buffet today which was oh so tragically BLAND!!! I have eaten here before and ordered special avoiding the buffet. I found that when eating at almost every local Indian restaurant, one has to request food to be extra spicy, extra hot only to get a low to medium spice at most. I guess they are afraid we will send it back if they do it right? So maybe it is my fault, today it was just me puttering around the area. I wanted some spice and good food before doing some chores. I thought, I don't need to special order and pay so much extra for my lunch.. I could just really go for some good food. Well, thats not what I got. I tried every hot entree they had and other then the Mango chutney (probably jarred), rice pudding and their simple lovely rice, there was not much flavor in anything I ate today. I was just so disappointed, I wish that I had never stopped.

3.5 stars... I'm sitting at work eating leftovers from our Saturday dinner. We don't eat a lot of Indian food simply because I eat way too much of it. We've been to this restaurant a bunch of times and always enjoyed the food. Our normal order (as with Saturday is): - start with somosa, filled with potatoes and peas in a deep fried pouch - order a side of onion kulcha - delicious even though I don't like onions - chicken tikka (you always need to specify you want chicken tikka, not chicken tikka masala with the sauce) - aloo gobhi - a cauliflower and potato dish So our service was okay. It always bugs me when I don't get asked what I want to drink first. Also, I didn't think the food was very hot even the deep fried somosa. Shouldn't that be piping hot from the fryer? My biggest issue with the meal was the price. It was really expensive like $16 a dish. I think that's a bit too high for cauliflower and potatoes! But, eating my leftovers, piping hot from the microwave, I'm pretty satisfied.

The service was great, very friendly and helpful. We started with Samosa, which were perfectly done. Piping hot and fresh. But it was sort of short on the spice. The Garlic Naan was great. I love garlic, so the fresh minced garlic and parsley, I really liked. For the entree, my sweetie's eggplant dish was also great.

I am working in KOP as a consultant for the time being and tried this place the other night. You will be pleasantly surprised by this diamond in the rough. As an indian from NY, I am very critical of Indian restaurants but this place did not dissappoint. I had the lamb biryani. The portion was huge and the flavor was great - I asked for the "American spicy" version. KOP is full of big name restaurants, but this is a hidden gem!

Went there yesterday with seven of us, four who were new to Indian food. The service was very good, and the restaurant seemed to be very empty. All the dishes were acceptable. i didn't care for the bindi (okra) but the lamb and chicken dishes were excellent. All in all a good experience

It's good for being a mid-range Indian and Pakistani restaurant, with above-average vegetarian options. I wasn't completely thrilled with the service and the decor felt schmaltzy but it was exactly the kind of place I was looking for.

  • Percy N.

Decent, among the top Indian restaurants in the area. I don't believe they have a liquor license. Dave, you are right in that it is hard to distinguish between Pakistani and Indian buffets. This place serves Indian food in that they have dishes from South India like Dosa and Chaat. Typical Pakistani dishes tend to have more meat in them and comparable to North Indian dishes (after all, Pakistan was part of India until about 50 yrs ago).

Let me start by saying that I don't know much about Indian Food or it's authenticity. Just going strictly by taste. Food tasted great. Plenty of variety. Restaurant was nice and clean. A little on the pricey side for a buffet, but I guess that's to be expected for a non-Chinese buffet. Also, it's BYOB. What's even better is that there is a liquor store right next store.

Damm good Indian food. IMHO, far better than the Indian places around downtown & University City Philly, which are the places I'm used to in the last 13 years or so(Minar Palace, Passage to India, Karma, Tandoor India, New Delhi.) The only thing I didn't like was the price was $13.95 pp for lunch on Saturday, instead of $8.95 as during the week, which we didn't know until we stood at the cashier reviewing the bill, when we noticed the price in very small fine print below the main price listing.

Been here a couple of times. I like it. It's owned by a Pakistani fellow. So I suggested some south Indian type dishes every now and then (I'm a big Dosa, idli and Sambhar) fan and the clientele (both Indians and Westerners) will like it. Lets see if it works. For now, it's a great place for buffet.

  • Jill D.

This place is delicious. Definitely one of the best restaurants in the area. And definitely the best Indian in the area. The buffet was huge, much bigger than other Indian buffets I've been to. There are a ton of vegetarian choices. Getting take out is really fast. They have it ready in less than 15 minutes, and it still tastes really good. In comparison to the other local Indian places, which I won't mention, the staff is friendly.

It's a great indian/pakistani buffet place (not sure how different each food is). If you want to experience some great variety of indian food at a great price (8.95 for lunch), look no further. They change their food from time to time, but it's pretty much the same for the most part. Great value food.

So two years ago, we attended our niece's wedding in Devon (we are from Arlington, VA). She married a young man who parents live in India, and they chose Desi to cater the rehersal dinner. The food was beyond excellent, so much so that no matter when we eat Indian, we always compare it to that delish rehersal dinner! Well, you can imagine our disappointment when we ordered take-out from Desi the night before Thanksgiving (last week), and the food was not even close to our past experience. The biggest (and most costly) mistake was to order 7 Butter Chickens, only to find out that the chicken was so DRIED OUT (not to mention, it looked like they took some left over Tandori Chicken and dumped it in the butter sauce, and voila...dinner!) Yuk. And the butter chicken sauce was watery and tasteless. My 10 year old kept saying, "but Mommy, this isn't what I remember AT ALL!" I guess more than anything, I hate being ripped off, and that is how we felt as we sat there eating $100 worth of not good food. So save your money, and go somewhere else. Our family (and we are a large one!) is done with this place.

Good Indian food. We had the chicken Tika masala and the lamb vindaloo. We had the food "hot" and it was quite manageable. Also the garlic naan is covered in plenty of fresh garlic. Re service was good but then again it wasn't crowded. I would come again.
